The Lord of the Rings

To support its expanding UK sales operations, Puma embarked on a strategic initiative to develop a new distribution centre in Castleford. This facility represented more than just a logistical upgrade — it was a blank canvas for digital transformation, offering the opportunity to implement cutting-edge technologies that would enhance collaboration, communication, and operational efficiency across the site.
The primary goal was to deploy consistent, user-friendly, and dependable digital solutions across three key areas:
Meeting Rooms
Employee Spaces (Canteen & Breakout Areas)
Production Zones
Each area had distinct requirements, but the overarching aim was to create a seamless digital experience that aligned with Puma’s brand values and operational needs.
We collaborated closely with Puma and the principal contractor throughout the design and build phase to ensure the solution met the brief precisely. The deployment took place during intermittent COVID-19 lockdowns, which introduced logistical complexities that required agile planning and execution.
Key elements of our approach included:
Meeting Room Solutions: We implemented a standardised video conferencing system across all rooms, prioritising simplicity and consistency to ensure ease of use for all staff.
Employee Engagement Spaces: Two 255” video walls were installed in communal areas, equipped with multi-input functionality. Staff can choose between a video game console, live sports/news feeds, or corporate messaging, fostering a more interactive and enjoyable environment.
Production Zone Displays: Digital screens were mounted above conveyor belts, receiving live updates directly from logistics planning systems. This ensures that staff have immediate access to the latest information regarding outbound goods, enhancing operational efficiency.
The digital solutions introduced at Puma’s Castleford distribution centre have not only streamlined operations but also transformed the day-to-day experience for employees across the site.
Meeting Rooms
Teams now enjoy seamless, intuitive video conferencing in every meeting space. Whether it’s a quick catch-up or a cross-site collaboration, the consistent setup means staff can focus on the conversation, not the technology. This has boosted productivity and reduced time lost to technical troubleshooting.
Employee Spaces
The canteen and break-out areas have become vibrant social and communication hubs. Two impressive 255” video walls offer a choice of live sports, news, gaming, or corporate messaging. Whether staff are unwinding during lunch or catching up on company updates, the space supports both relaxation and engagement. It’s become a favourite spot for team bonding and informal interaction.
Production Areas
On the warehouse floor, digital screens above the conveyors provide real-time updates from logistics planning. This ensures that warehouse operatives are always informed about the latest schedules and loading priorities. The result? Fewer delays, smoother workflows, and a more empowered workforce who can respond quickly to changing demands.
These enhancements have created a more connected, efficient, and energised workplace—where technology supports people, and every space is designed with the employee experience in mind.
